Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island Pays Tribute to Veterans and Military Families throughout November

Recognition initiatives engage employees across the organization

November 18, 2022 (Smithfield, RI) – In recognition of National Veterans and Families Month, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (Neighborhood) is paying tribute to military veterans and their families in a variety of ways throughout November. Each of the initiatives – from a donation to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island to a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Rhode Island National Guard Military Family Program, to learning opportunities – was designed to engage the organization’s employees in celebrating and thanking military service members and their families.

“We owe so much to our veterans, those currently serving and to their families for the sacrifices they’ve made to protect our country,” said Peter Marino, president and CEO of Neighborhood. “I am incredibly proud of the many ways our employees step up every year during Veterans and Families Month to pay homage to them.”

Neighborhood kicked off its tribute initiatives with a “shout out ceremony” at its offices earlier in the month. The event, which convened employees from across the organization, centered around a $1,500 donation made to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island on behalf of Neighborhood’s Military Employee Resource Group (ERG) and other employees who are veterans. The ceremony – preceded by a special annual luncheon for Neighborhood’s veterans – drew hundreds of Neighborhood staff who took the opportunity to recognize their colleagues who are veterans and to celebrate the donation to Operation Stand Down. Those attending also learned about the symbolic elements displayed on the POW MIA Remembrance Missing Soldier table in Neighborhood’s café that is part of the organization’s tradition of honoring those who served and never returned home.

Neighborhood also held a Thanksgiving food drive to support the Rhode Island National Guard Military Family Program Holiday Assistance Food Baskets Drive. In true Neighborhood spirit, the giving initiative generated food to fill to the brim 50 Thanksgiving food baskets for Rhode Island military families.

To round out efforts to pay tribute to veterans and military families during the recognition month, Neighborhood’s Military ERG held a “Lunch & Learn” – A Marine’s Life – From Footprints to Fleet – on the mission, structure, history and values of the United States Marine Corps. The event provided a perspective of personal experiences of life in the fleet as well as the post-service challenges many military veterans face.
