Neighborhood’s Employee Spotlight focuses on Ed C., who shares why his real-life experiences reinforce why the work he does every day matters.
What brought you to Neighborhood, and what keeps you here?
I was born and raised in Rhode Island, and service to the community is a core value that underpins my career. I’ve always been drawn to solving complex problems in ways that meaningfully help people at scale, which naturally led me to health care. It’s one of the few fields where thoughtful, well-designed solutions can improve lives every single day. Working at Neighborhood allows me to do that work while giving back to the Rhode Island community that shaped me.
As one of our Product Directors, how do you see Neighborhood shape the future of Medicaid and health care delivery in Rhode Island?
As a Product Director, I see Neighborhood shaping the future of Medicaid in Rhode Island by using our trusted brand and strong partnerships to help simplify how members access and navigate care. As the state’s largest Managed Care Organization, we’re uniquely positioned to partner with the state on innovative, member-centered solutions that deliver coverage and support in ways that truly meet our members where and when they need it most.
What’s one initiative you’re proud of that reflects our vision of comprehensive coverage and community health?
One initiative I’m especially proud of is the insourcing of behavioral health. It reflects a clear commitment to holistically caring for our members’ health. By taking more ownership of behavioral health, we’re creating new opportunities to deepen partnerships with providers and community-based organizations to innovate and deliver more integrated, person-centered care.
What inspires you outside of work that connects to what we do here?
What inspires me most outside of work is my family. I’m at a stage in life where I’m caring for both young children and aging parents, each with very different needs from our health care system. Experiencing the local system from those perspectives has been grounding as it highlights where structures fall short, and where they work well and deserve to be protected. Those real-life experiences reinforce why this – and my – work matter.
What’s one thing about you that people might not know?
I am a huge movie fan and drawn to great storytelling, especially the way it can crystallize shared experiences and help us better relate to one another. I enjoy a wide range of films, from more artistic, thought-provoking pieces to classic popcorn movies. If you stop by my office while I am doing deeper work, there’s a good chance of a movie score playing on my AirPods.
