Employee Spotlight: Meet Catherine S.

Catherine S. is an Executive Assistant who is coming up on her fifth year at Neighborhood. Keep reading to get to know a little more about her, including what she set out originally to do with her career.

How long have you been with Neighborhood, and what has been the most rewarding part of your journey here?

My service anniversary is at the end of April, so I am nearing the five-year mark. I really enjoy helping to support the Operations Division’s projects each year. I especially enjoyed helping the other people in our division win the Halloween trophy in the “Division Category” last year for the first time ever. It was great getting to know folks from all our departments.

What is a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know? (Feel free to share something unique or surprising about yourself!)

I went to college for hospitality management and at one point in my career planning, I wanted to own and run a Bed and Breakfast.

Did you take advantage of the volunteer day offered by Neighborhood?

I was not able to take advantage of the opportunity last year; however, I think it is great that Neighborhood supports employees who wish to give back to the community. It is a great opportunity for all employees, and I appreciate the fact we have it available.

What causes are you passionate about, and why?

photo of a group of people at the Buddy WalkSix years ago, my son was born. During the 12th week of pregnancy, we learned that he most likely would have Down Syndrome. I researched, reached out to folks, and learned everything I could about the topic. This research led me to the Down Syndrome Society of Rhode Island, which offers a lot of support and socialization for people with Down Syndrome and their families. We participate in their “Buddy Walk” each year to raise money and awareness for this great organization.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received, and how has it guided you in your career or personal life?

Everyone is walking their own path, and we do not always know what is on that path, so treat everyone like you would want to be treated. I always try to look for the good in folks and in every situation and attempt to help in any way I can offer.
