Senior Agenda Coalition’s Bill Flynn Receives National Recognition for Advocating on Behalf of Rhode Island Seniors with Low-Income

ACAP Cites Flynn’s Work to Improve Elder Access to Quality, Affordable Health Care and Community Services

March 28, 2016 (Providence) – William J. “Bill” Flynn, Executive Director of the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island, was  recently named an Honorable Mention Award winner in the National Association for Community Affiliated Plans’ (ACAP) Leadership in Advocacy Award competition.  Flynn was nominated by Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island for his work to improve the health and well-being of the state’s elderly residents.

“Bill has worked tirelessly for years to improve senior care delivery systems and access to resources,” said Neighborhood’s President and CEO, Peter M. Marino.  “He continues to be one of the strongest advocates for offering Medicaid long-term supports and services through managed care plans and has been a great partner to us, our state’s seniors, their families and their caregivers.  Bill ensures that the voice and needs of seniors are central in the development and management of new programs.”

Bill and his team at the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island focus on issues that help older Rhode Islanders maintain choice and dignity in their living and social environments and to promote programs that protect seniors' quality of life. The Coalition has supported Neighborhood’s efforts to help senior citizens live independently in the community for as long as possible.  Bill and the Coalition regularly offer advice on ways Neighborhood can best deliver respite care, affordable housing, and transportation to our members.

“Neighborhood was proud to nominate Bill for this award,” Marino said.  “Seniors who choose to live independently deserve our support, and Bill is relentless in making sure those supports are delivered.  We were very glad to see him recognized on a national level.”
