Proud member of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans

All Rhody Health Partners (RHP), Children with Special Healthcare Needs (CSN) and Substitute Care (SC) members must use generic drugs.

This change to generic drugs applies which took effect October 2010  to RHP, CSN and SC members in both health plans- Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island and United Healthcare of New England.

Generic drugs will be used first.

Members who currently use brand name prescription drugs will be notified by their health plan if they have to get a new prescription from their doctor.

There will be a very limited number of brand name drugs that will be allowed. Your doctor and pharmacist will be notified which brand name drugs will be allowed. These will be limited to certain classes (or types) of drugs. On a case-by-case basis, additional brand name drugs may be available based on medical necessity and demonstrated lack of effect.

If you feel that you are unable to take the generic medication please contact your doctor. Health plan providers know about the criteria for approval of brand name coverage.
